Abstract
The article is dedicated to the study of the axiological potential of Christian ethics in addressing contemporary environmental issues. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that, among other contemporary global problems, environmental issues take precedence. The significance of this research is heightened by the geopolitical changes resulting from the Russian-Ukrainian war. The author points to a number of threats to both Ukraine's ecosystem and those of European countries arising from active hostilities. The article examines the perspectives of the three branches of Christianity on contemporary environmental issues, provides a comparative analysis and generalization of the religious foundations for developing ecological ethics. The author also analyzes accusations against the Christian worldview regarding the emergence of modern environmental problems and presents an alternative perspective on their origins. By comparing new non-religious concepts of the relationship between humans and the biosphere with Christian ethics, the author highlights the advantages that the latter offers for fostering balanced Human-Nature relations. Furthermore, the author discusses the specificity of biblical texts and the influence of subjective factors on the formation of theology, which opens up opportunities for reinterpreting religious texts and seeking the most suitable interpretations for responsible relationships between Humanity and Nature. The scientific inquiry conducted by the author has revitalized interest in studying the axiological potential of Christian ethics in addressing environmental issues, revealing and analyzing alternative perspectives on both the possible causes of the modern ecological crisis and the pathways to their resolution.
