Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Ukrainian studies principles of the activities of educational institutions of the Ukrainian diaspora in the conditions of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. The methodological, content, and organizational principles of Ukrainian studies as a holistic scientific and educational system are considered. The author outlines the role of Ukrainian schools abroad as carriers of national identity, operating in the conditions of a global humanitarian challenge. Recommendations for strengthening the Ukrainian studies component in educational centers of the Ukrainian diaspora are offered.
The author analyzes the main functions of such schools, the challenges that have arisen before Ukrainian educational centers outside the state, and provides examples of the effective work of public initiatives. The focus is on the role of public initiatives and state policy in forming the cultural stability of the younger generation of Ukrainians in the diaspora.
It is emphasized that Saturday and Sunday schools of Ukrainian studies are the epicentre of the national stability of Ukrainian youth abroad, which is especially important in conditions of war. They combine educational, cultural, social, and informational functions – forming future bearers of Ukrainian identity. Institutions need systematic support – personnel, methodological, and financial – for the purpose of long-term development and strengthening the role of the Ukrainian diaspora in preserving the national identity of youth.
Attention is focused on the implementation of the Ukrainian studies curriculum for Saturday and Sunday schools of Ukrainians abroad, “I and Ukraine,” which is aimed at helping educators of Ukrainian Saturday and Sunday schools to comprehend the modern challenges of education, its main principles, and basic national values, on the basis of which the education of the younger generation is formed.
