ВOOK REFERENCE CHARACTERISTICS OF UKRAINIAN DIASPORY ISSUES AND THEIR ROLE IN CONSOLIDATION OF UKRAINE
Abstract
The study of the factors of consolidation of Ukrainian national idea in the context of the struggle for establishmentof Ukraine as a legal and a democratic State is an extremely important problem nowadays. Furthermore, the book culture of theUkrainian diaspora community has been and still remains one of the notable factors in consolidation of the Ukrainian society in theworld as it is important part of the book culture of Ukraine and deserves a special attention of the researchers. After all, most of theeditions of Ukrainian foreign unity, for a long time were not accessible to a wide audience of readers in Ukraine due to the ideologicaland political confrontation of the two following systems: the Soviet authoritarian and Western democratic. Respectively a contextualhistory of the book culture of Ukraine is investigated by L. Dubrovin, G. Kovalchuk, O. Onishchenko, V. Popik and other scholars. Inthe recent years such researches as T. Antoniuk, N. Solonska, O. Supronyuk have devoted their scientific workouts to the bookculture of the Ukrainian diaspora. The advantages of this study are that the masked editions of the Ukrainian diaspora as a part ofthe book culture and the means of consolidation of Ukrainian national idea are regarded as the subject of the study for the first time. The outcome of the study was analyzed the masked publications of the Department of foreign ukrainica of the Book Science Instituteof the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky, which were distributed in a cultural space of Ukraine in the second halfof the twentieth century, as one of the means to consolidate Ukrainian national idea and the struggle for the Ukrainian state. Forexample, at the department of foreign ukrainica of the Book Science Institute of the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I.Vernadsky (hereinafter DFU BSI NLUV) among more than 34.5 thousand units of storage a small proportion consists of the maskedpublications. The term "masked publication" is considered to be a work of the press, which for some reasons, usually political, wasreleased into the world with deliberately false indications of the author, publishing house, date or place of publication. In our opinion, such editions may also be called publishing falsifications, as it is evident that the publishing houses in the diaspora deliberatelypresented a false information on a book cover and a title sheet of these books concerning the authorship, publishing houses, placesof publication in order to circumvent an official censorship in Ukraine and to achieve the purpose of publishing these works. Sucheditions were intended to provide the readers in Soviet Ukraine with an important information about the life and activities of thediaspora, to introduce another view of a soviet reality, to awaken a national consciousness, to show the undemocratic character ofthe political regime of the USSR, to strengthen the belief in the legitimacy of the struggle for an independent and united Ukraine.
Key words: masked publications, fund of the Department of Foreign Ukrainica at the Institute of Book Science of theNational Library of Ukraine named after V.I.Vernadsky, rare edition, bibliographic description.
